Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the scientific and systematic approach to understanding behavior and how the environment influences it. It is a widely recognized and effective treatment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities. ABA focuses on applying interventions based on the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors. This can include increasing useful skills and reducing challenging behaviors. ABA therapy aims to help individuals reach their full potential and improve their quality of life.
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a graduate-level certification in behavior analysis. Professionals certified at the BCBA level are independent practitioners who provide behavior-analytic services.
BCBAs supervise the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and other professionals who implement behavior-analytic interventions.
A Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) is an undergraduate-level certification in behavior analysis. Professionals certified at the BCaBA level provide behavior-analytic services under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Professionals certified at the BCaBA level may not provide behavior-analytic services without the supervision of a BCBA. BCaBAs may supervise the work of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is a paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior-analytic services and practice under the direction and close supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA.
